HISTORY

The history of a company that, as time goes by, learns, innovates, shares and strengthens its values.

Rudolph´s history began right after World War II, when Mr. Alfred Rudolph, during his practical studies in his home-town of Hamburg, in Germany, became friends of Mr. Otto Herweg, a Brazilian born in Timbó. After returning to Brazil, Mr. Otto Herweg decided to set up “Relógios Herwey” (Herwey Clock Watch Industry) and invited his friend Alfred, who had graduated in precision mechanics and specialized in chronometers for ships and aircraft, to work with him on this project. After receiving the invitation, he and his fiancé, Ms. Christa Helene Elisabeth Gottschaulk, anticipated their wedding, before moving to Brazil.

They arrived in Timbó/Brazil on March 23rd,1953 and had 4 children – Wolfgang, Joachim, Jutta, and Gabriele. For over 15 years, Mr. Alfred Rudolph acted as the technical director for “Relógios Herweg” (Herweg Clock Industry), where he developed technology and manufactured alarm clocks, which were exported to the main markets around the globe. In 1965, Mr. Alfred Rudolph began manufacturing tools for watchmakers from his workshop at home. As an experienced watchmaker and having in-depth knowledge of the manufacturing processes, he offered new products which were equivalent in quality to those offered by traditional watchmakers in Switzerland and Germany.

In 1973, assisted by his wife in administration, he set up a small business named Christa H.E.G. Rudolph, known as “IMP – Indústria Mecânica de Precisão” (Precision Mechanical Industry). It manufactured made-to-order lathe-turned parts, thereby nationalizing components for companies such as Embraco in Joinville and Siemens Equitel in Curitiba. In 1977, the founders expanded the scope of the small business and incorporated their son Wolfgang as the third partner and thereby constituted “Rudolph Usinados de Precisão Ltda” (Rudolph Precision Machining Ltd). Having graduated in mechanical engineering and with a professional background in a German multinational company, Wolfgang has been the managing director since 1981.

In 1988, after 15 years in the home of the founders, the company moved to its current address, and is known as “Rudolph Usinados de Precisão Ltda” (Rudolph Machining Company Ltd). Together with its subsidiaries and related businesses, Usitim, Rudolph Fixações (Fasteners), Rudolph Usinados (Machining) and SK (in Slovakia), it is housed in a roofed area of over 8,300 m2 built on a 173,600 m2 site in the town of Timbó, Santa Catarina State.
